• I am running two wordpress websites that use contact form 7. I have set them up and provided an email address for the contact form 7 to use. The email address goes in the to field if I believe to be correct. I created my forms and put them in my website. when i try to send a test email the message below the contact form says everything was ok but I do not get the message in my inbox or in my spam folder.

    Any help

    Thanks

  • It sounds like you have it setup correctly. Is it spelled correctly? That’s always the easiest thing to start with. I’ve been using the plugin for a couple years without issue.

what hosting company are you using? sometimes, The From field needs to be an address from your domain, not someone else’s domain– this is set by hosting company to avoid spoofing.

for example, i’m with dreamhost, so I had to leave the “from” field blank and it worked fine.

    Hi,

Thanks for responding. Sorry it has been a while since I last logged in. I am hosting my websites on my own server. I have configured a headless server on my network and I have all my websites hosted on that server. I cannot get any contact form plugin to work. I dont know if the issue is that I am hosting the websites on my own server or if gmail is blocking contact with my server for some reason. I am not sure where the test messages that I have conducted ended up. I have tested the email addresses Im using in the contact form 7 and they work.

    Any idea?

This plugin might help narrow it down. It lets you see what form content has been submitted. That should at least let you know that the form is working.

Do you have the proper email modules installed and running for your server?

    Firewall or anti-virus?

I was having the very same problem, but only recently. Turns out that the new Dreamhost spam policy was the problem as Somegirlwitha.com suggested. Since it’s technically “spoofing” the user’s address to send email, Dreamhost no longer allows it.

I fixed the problem by using an email address on the hosting server (i.e. [email protected]) in the From field. I then added “Reply-To: [your-name] <[your-email]>” in the Additional Headers field, so that when I reply to an email, it goes to the person who sent it (not [email protected]).
