I am using the plugin ‘WordPress Backup to Dropbox’ and it works well. The only issue I have is that it only adds files. It does not delete any files from my Dropbox folder, even if I have deleted them on my wordpress installation.

This means that if I have to restore the whole site from a backup, I will get a whole bunch of files that I at one point deleted. A common example would be old plugins that I don’t use. Finding every file/folder to delete would be a pain.

I can see that this feature has been requested before (e.g. https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/plugin-wordpress-backup-to-dropbox-a-way-to-delete-files?replies=4). But for me, this is not an optional extra; it’s an essential part of backing-up for me.

Can anyone recommend a robust backup solution that does this, preferably to Dropbox?

  • It would be a great feature.
oldmankit, did you find another solution?

I didn’t find any plugins. In the end I realised that wordpress/plugins files were not important – it’s the database that counts.

I have set-up a scheduled task in Windows which connects to my server by SSH and backups up my database regularly. This is enough for me.
