Show posts on static web pages

I apologise if this is asked frequently. If so please point me to a relevant link.

I’m helping a friend with a website. WordPress is one part of the website, the rest is built in static HTML+SSI. I’d like to have a way to display posts, summaries or headlines on these static web pages. It should pull in a PHP-generated fragment, using code possibly similar to this:

<!–#include virtual=”/wordpress/summaries.php” –>

I can hack something together, but are there any tools or plugins that can do this sort of thing? Thanks.
