A website Portfolio with Blog

    Hello,

    I am new to WP and I have been trying to build a portfolio website with a blog in it. I have been reading through the documentation and I think I get the whole structure and how the information is output in the browser. I want to have my home page with thumbnails of my different projects. and in that home page have a link to a blog.

    This is where I start to get confused or at least I don’t seem capable of carrying on. That is that when I use get_posts() to have each project be displayed as a post in my main page. But I feel at least to my knowledge that if I do this, I won’t be able to have a blog since I am treating my projects as posts. I was reading in the documentation that with wp_query I’m able to retrieve intricacies from both posts and pages but it seems that the documentation is mostly for posts as a blog.

    If anyone has a lead in how to approach a website in that way I will really appreciate it.

    Again, I’m doing a portfolio website where in the main page I want to have all my projects displayed as thumbnails. But at the same time. I want to have a link to a blog within the portfolio, where I can have posts of my own.

    You can still do that, if you use categories or Custom Post Types.

    Hey Mika,

    Thanks for the reply. I started asking around and reading more and I realized I have two options to approach it. I will use the post to query my different projects through categories. And also have a category called blog for the post I want to show in my blog page.

    The other option is to have a wordpress within a wordpress. But I’m not very fond of this one.

    For the first one. The only thing that I’m still trying to figure out is if I can customized also the different categories in how they are displayed. Meaning I don’t want the post for my projects to be displayed in the same fashion as the post for my blog.
