• Hi All,

Am searching a plugin for comments/replies to the post to be “PRIVATE” for the visitors and just the blog admin can view the private comments !!

like, there is a check box in the reply box says “do you want your commet to be PRIVATE?” and if you check the box it will show only for the blog admin

I hope to get a plugin do this works for 2.0.x

Thanks a lot and waiting to get this plugin

    Hi ladydelaluna,

yeah, its great idea if someone came up with to be added in the reply comment box as a check box option if the comment writer wants his/her comment to be PRIVATE to the blog admin so the only the Admin can read it

waiting someone to help us with this plugin

    Thanks a lot in advance

There was a similar request a little while ago and I wondered about it then as I do now. What ‘value’ is a private comment adding to a blog? If noone else can see it, they won’t comment on it.

If you want people to really send your private comments, you could direct them to a Contact Form for that purpose.

I guess I fail to see the point of a Blog with private comments.

    Regards

understandable, cypher – however sometimes less clicking for the user to get their message across is better i think. if they want to comment on a post privately, it’s easier for them to do it and check a “private” box rather than have to go hunting for a contact form or what have you, and then make their references there… just MHO

    Hi Cypher,

Thanks a lot for your reply to the thread, but I think PRIVATE Comment Plugin usage depends on what your blog talks about !!

like my comment, it talks about politics and some time I feel no one can talk free because they don’t want their comment to be shown to the visitors of my blog, so they don’t feel free to talk about the subject thats written by me or by another writer

As I said Cypher, I think the plugin usage depends on what kind of blogs you are dealing with plus the comments writer also don’t want his comment to be shown to anyone eals than the blog admin

I hope if someone can help me in this plugin because I don’t know how to do it

    Thanks a lot

I would love to have this as well. Though I would also like the user and myself to be able to also say only allow users of this user level or above to view this comment. ??

    Hi war59312,

Yes why not to have this option in the plugin and it can be modified from Private Comment Admin in ACP

    Thanks a lot

Private comments are EXTREMELY tricky to pull off in wordpress. I experimented with it briefly but gave up because of the lack of plugin compatibility.

It’s very easy to control comments being displayed (except for the comment owner) via hacking your commments.php template page HOWEVER consider how many other plugins tie into comments without checking any other settings about them. There are search plugins that will allow searching and showing of comments without any checks for private, there are “subscribe to comments” plugins that would be ignorant of any privacy etc.

Even the blog-wide RSS comments would have to be patched so others would not see the comments.

If you don’t care about plugin compatibility I can basically show you how to patch comments.php to simulate private comments.

Oh wait, I just had a very simple idea pop into my head.

By forcing all comments to be unapproved on a per-post basis, the visitor would only be able to see their own comments.

    Hence making them private comments.

Most other plugins should obey the fact the comment is unapproved and not show it.

The trick is hooking the comment before it is saved and making sure the approved status is set to ‘0’

Check out Whisper… here. May be what you are looking for.
