Avatar not saving correct for users

I managed to fix the problem.
It seems that the gravatar function is causing the problem.
When disabling the gravatar, by adding following code to the functions.php file (in your theme’s folder)

add_filter('bp_core_fetch_avatar_no_grav', '__return_true');
