AdSense ad showing up on top of my header

I know this is a very beginner question but when I paste my Google Adsense code into General Settings > Advertising in the spot that they provide specifically for that, it makes the ad show up right on top of my header so you can’t read the title of my site. I need to know how to move the ad down so it’s under my header.
