• My blogroll is getting kinda long so I am looking to create a links page. But not just your typical page with links one after the other.I want something different… unique.I could have sworn I saw a plugin to create a links page like the one on 9 Rules but I can’t seem to find it now.

Anyway, does anyone know of any tutorials or such to create such a page?

    Thanks ??

  • I’m right there with ya Bhoney.. =) I’m searching for the same thing really, plus something that RyanBrill has for the “Archives” page of his..

    https://www.ryanbrill.com/archives/

Ya click on the date and it drops down the “posts” within that date, I have seen some example plugins of this type, but they just don’t work “cleanly” though sigh. Anyone with any suggestions, as well as what Bhoney and I are looking for, for the “links” page..?

I know Brill is using Javascript for his, just was wondering if there is something like that now or not..I just don’t have the time to browse for plugins though sigh.. dang house arrest crap.. =(

Hey spencerp, I found the plugin I was referring to.I haven’t tried this yet as it’s 4:18 am, but here is a working version of it https://www.wiphey.com/links/ and the tutorial https://www.wiphey.com/2006/02/07/wp-quicky-1-9rules-style-links-page/

OMFG! Bhoney, you are the greatest! Thanks for finding that and posting it! I’m going to work at that tomorrow when I have some more time. =) ??

This is great, again, thanks for posting that Bhoney. =)

Now I just gotta figure out how and what Ryan Brill uses or whatever for his Archive’s page lol! Maybe I’ll send him an email or something…I dunno yet.. =)

Well, it appears Viper007bond came up with a little fix and modification of the Clean Archives Plugin by Shaun Grimes. =) Basically works like Brill’s archive page does lol..

There is a new comment on the post “Clean Archives Plug-in.”

I finally got around to making my own flavor of the plugin: https://www.viper007bond.com/archives/

It only uses 1 query now (to fetch the cached version from the database), 0 queries actually if you’re using WordPress’ caching feature.

I was was given the idea to have it moo.fx enhanced as the page starts to get rather long. I’m also hoping to add a link that expands all of the post lists so you can see the old view.

I’ll release it if anyone’s interested in it. ??

I just might hit him up on that one lol! =)

Mike, thanks for that link. =) I think I ran across that the other day or something. I just downloaded it now and will give it a try once, see what happens.. ??

I did however notice a little “jumpyness” in the page when clicking on the “dates” on this page, while using Firefox:
    https://cdcstudios.com/archive.php

But maybe it’s something to do with the F.F. extensions I have or something… however when I had “tried” Viper’s “version” of it on his page, I didn’t get that “jumpyness” in Firefox..
    https://www.viper007bond.com/archives/

What I mean by “jumpyness” is, when I clicked on the Month /Date to open it up for the posts to display, it seemed to “hop” me back up to the top of page..

Update: I just tried it again, and it only appears to do it if you scroll down the page so all of the dates are visible. An example one to try would be the: “April 2005” date “link”. If you click on it to “Open it” or “Close it”, it shifts you up to top of page.

I dunno, I’ll try it out once anyways and see what happens lol. =) Thanks again for the link though Mike. =)

Actually I wrote the cdc clean archive plugin. The new version fixes the jumpiness. I’ve been holding off releasing it until I can try and find a fix or hack to get rid of the problem that IE7’s beta introduced.
Give me about 4 days and the new version will be available.
