WordPress, Domain, and Nameserver Issue/Question
-
I am taking over a website for a friend to redesign and manage it with WordPress. I have built plenty of WordPress sites from the ground up but have never taken an existing domain to change it to WordPress. It’s also been a while since I’ve done one so I’m not sure if I ran in to this problem in the past. Anyways..
The domain name already exists and is active. Here is what I did:
1. Set up new hosting with HostGator
2. Installed WP using existing domain (installed in root domain folder)
3. Changed nameservers to point to HostGator nameserversNow, I just did this today, and the domain registrar said it could take up to 24 hours to effectively change the nameservers over. This seems like a long time to me for this process but… I realize the nameservers have not been changed over completely yet, but I still figured I could work on the WP site in the meantime. When I go to log in using https://www.domain.com/wp-admin I get this error:
“NOT FOUND – The requested URL /wp-admin was not found on this server.”
I’m assuming (hoping) that this simply means the nameserver process has not gone through yet, and I’ll just have to wait. But I wanted to ask around as I’m sure someone has had experience with this in the past.
Your help is much appreciated in advance!
