Trying to rearrange products

I am trying to rearrange the order of the products I have on my site. I am NOT a programmer type person, so I hired someone to set up the site and get everything working. It is now my job to add products to the store. So after getting some pictures done i started uploading them. My issue is that I cannot figure out how to rearrange the order in which the products display. Each one is categorized. So if I have 50 items, and I want item #3 to show up as the 48th product instead of the third, how do I move it?
I found posts telling me to drag and drop them into the correct order, but that only works if the items display on the same page in the admin section. So in my example, item #3 cannot be dragged to the last page.
Like I said, everything is categorized and most have sub-categories. Do I need to add some other kind of identifier?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
