How to customize Event List

am new to this, how do you customize the event list to look like the one in the demo page? (with a line that separates each event)

currently my event list is very small (it doesnt expand to the full width of my site, only about half of the width) and the lines between each event is very tight, the pictures are practically stacking on top of each other.

is there anywhere i can edit these 2 problems?
