google calendar plugin (calendar style)

I’ve not seen one before but it sounds like a good idea – let me know if you find one. If nobody else gets there first I’ll have a crack at one tomorrow ??

Interesting idea. I like it.

So I’ve added a calendar option to my Google Calendar widget. Yes, sorry, but it is indeed a widget. I may abstract out the functionality more so it can be used as a non-widget, but that will take a while longer. Widgets are just easier and simpler all around.

I want to add some more functionality before I make it publically available though, so it’s not posted up yet. It works okay, it’s just not very pretty. ??

Anyway, I’ll try to get it done sometime tonight. When I do, it’ll be version 1.5 of the widget and will be posted here: https://ottodestruct.com/blog/2006/04/18/google-calendar-widget

Phew! Someone else decided to do the work.

Otto: About turning it into a non-widget. I’ve converted most my widgets into dual-widget-plugin style & with the practise I’ve got it down to a knack.

I’m putting together a sort of “How To” on the subject so will hurry it along & upload for all to enjoy.

mutube: I think I’ve got an easy to use method for doing it, actually. My plan is to make a wrapper function which takes a bunch of arguments, converts them into the correct widget options, then sends them over to the normal widget-producing code to produce the sidebar muck. Should be easy enough, I just need to actually do it. The real problem is that this widget has a *lot* of options. Not as much as many of the built in WP-functions, but quite a lot of them nevertheless. Need to figure out some defaults and such.

Okay, it’s available. It could stand a lot more work because it’s a fairly hideous hack at the moment, and I still haven’t made it a non-widget, but it works well enough to shove out there and let people play with.

Also, it no worky with PHP 4. PHP 4 had several date handling issues that are marked as “WONTFIX”, so upgrade to PHP 5.

Jeremi just put a fix on my blog to make the widget work with PHP 4. I can’t test it myself, but since it doesn’t seem to break the functionality with PHP 5, I’ve added it to the widget. Might help.

Nothing has been posted here for some time… are you still planning on non-widgetizing this plugin? I for one would love it. If you’re not I guess I’ll find another solution.

Okay, the thing now works as a non-widget. Usage is not particularly simple, because there are a lot of options, but it does work. See the readme.txt file for info and an example on how to use it.
