• Noob! Second day at WP.
I’ve seen many great “skins” from the contest on alex king org. I’d like to use one for my new WP blog. I’ve been searching for the documentation and have come up with nothing. I saw in a post a suggestion to use the tutorial from SouthernGirl. I’ve got the directory structure set up, but then this PHP magic starts!?!? Is that the easiest way to learn to change the skin? Have I missed an option where you choose the default skin, and all you have to do is put the file in the wp-includes directory?
I have also seen a hack to let users change the skin. I don’t want that.
Thanks in advance! I’m excited about the features of WP!
    Clark
BTW: Any help on getting to sub/nested categories like alex king org?

  • For those styles to work, you should really try Alex’s wp-style hack on his wp/b2 hacks page.

OK Then! That worked. Thanks for the tip. I had ignored that route because I hadn’t wanted users to be able to change the skin, but given no options they can’t. (Control Freak!)

Why not just download the stylesheet, rename it wp-layout.css, and upload it in place of the default?

Hi Clark, I hope you used the tutorial I wrote for Alex’s style switcher. I really need to go through these threads and clarify that it’s the easiest method vs. the old way that I adapted for WP from an MT tutorial.
Why don’t you want your users to be able to switch skins?
