Post tags DO NOT honor Entries per page

I have 74,898 tags and Google is not accepting my Yoast WP Seo generated sitemap due to the fact that it contains too many entries. I have entries per page set to 5,000.
Please fix this as it’s a serious problem affecting my seo rankings and if WP Seo won’t work, then I will have to switch to something else.
