• Hi all,

    Twentyeleven
    Twentyeleven-child

    I’m a little bid confused on adjusting (reducing) the width of the blank space on both left/right sides.

    #primary {
        float: left;
        margin: 0 -29.5% 0 0;
        width: 100%; }
    #secondary {
        float: right;
        margin-right: 4.5%;
        width: 25%; }

    URL; https://hymn.satimis.com/angels-from-the-realms-of-glory/

    Please help.

    Besides I expect increasing the size of the embedded video.

    NOW: iframe width=”640″ height=”360″

    However increasing their value 20% to 768×432 doesn’t have effect, still the same size.

    Thanks

  • Why not use the “full width” template? Adjust #primary won’t work because that is too high up the element hierarchy to do any damage. I think they CSS element you are looking for is .entry-content to adjust the size. Again, this should be resolved by using the full-width template within posts or pages.

    Hi,

    Whether you meant adding the full link of the video?

    I tried on;
    https://hymn.satimis.com/to-god-be-the-glory/

    To God Be the Glory
    Hymn 341 with lyrics

    adding the full link instead;
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymrZO1PZbU4

    still the same size.

    No, when editing the page or post in WordPress, you have the option to change the Post/Page template to “Full Width.” Try that.

    Hi,

    I’m running twentyeleven child theme here.

    Tried adding following lines on style.css of child theme;

    .page-template-fullwidth-php #content { width: 100%; margin: 0;
    }
    .page-template-fullwidth-php .entry-content, .page-template-fullwidth-php .entry-header{ width: 90%;
    }

    but without result.

    See this post here.
    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/twenty-eleven-copy-make-content-wider-for-one-col-layout?replies=21#post-2492135

    But I wouldn’t use 100% ( which comes to 848px ), I would go with 800px.

    .singular .entry-header,
    .singular .entry-content,
    .singular footer.entry-meta,
    .singular #comments-title {
    	width: 94.3396%;
    	/* 94.3396% of 848px is 800px  */
    }

    For youtube embed default size, it needs to be done in functions.php

    function my_content_width() {
    	if ( is_page() ) {
    		global $content_width;
    		$content_width = 800;
    	}
    }
    add_action( 'template_redirect', 'my_content_width' );

    Or don’t do anything, just install a responsive vdo plugin.

    Hi paulwpxp,

    Lot of thanks for your code. Now I have my problem solved.

    Coming to the size of video frame. I found an easy solution, just increasing both width and height dimension by 20% and adding;

    class=”aligncenter” to the embed codes to center the video.

    I’m going to tackle another question – popup a note at first evoking the website. I’ll start another posting.

    It sounds like you put in the full embed code with width and height and also the class ? If that’s so, I think it’s too much job to do.

    The best way is to only put in the VDO URL and let WP do its job, and use this in stylesheet to automatically center align.

    embed, iframe, object { display:block; margin: 0 auto; }

    Hi,

    I got the embed code on Youtube with a right-click

    <iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/M0_HYBCgW9Q?feature=player_detailpage" height="468" width="832" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0"></iframe>

    Put the code on the page and change the original height/width from 360/640 to 468/832 adding class=”aligncenter”

    Re your advice, could you please explain a little bid more.

    Say I have the youtube link;
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKsldeqRiDk

    I expect embed the video on page https://hymn.satimis.com/angels-from-the-realms-of-glory/

    What shall I enter on child style.css? How to fix the location of the video on that page?

    Thanks

    The answer is already in my previous post. Don’t use full embed code like that, only put in VDO URL and then put that CSS in child stylesheet.

    Thread Starter satimis

    (@satimis)

    Hi,

    I got the point. Put VDO URL
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=MS3vpAWW2Zc

    on the page and location where I expect.

    Put following code;

    embed, iframe, object { display:block; margin: 0 auto; }

    on style.css of child theme

    Performed the test with the result as;
    https://hymn.satimis.com/messiah-for-unto-us-a-child-is-born/

    The frame size is smaller than that on youtube website. If without the code on style.css the frame size is still the same but with the frame moved to left.

    satimis

    That piece of CSS is for centering it, making it looks good even when the size is not expanded to full container width.

    To make it span fullwidth, you need to modify the $content_width in function (see previous post above), OR use that plugin.

    Also, the VDO URL for auto embed should only be this

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKsldeqRiDk

    It’s very simple, WP does the rest.

    Thread Starter satimis

    (@satimis)

    I tried that URL;
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKsldeqRiDk

    before with smaller frame displayed. Then I tried;
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=MS3vpAWW2Zc

    but no improvement.

    I’ll tried your suggested plugin later.

    Does Responsive Video Embed plugin
    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/responsive-video-embeds/

    work on Twentyeleven Theme?

    Thanks

    satimis

    The VDO URL for auto embed has nothing to do with size. My comment on the usage of it is for you to not having to do too much job on embedding.

    Regarding that plugin, just try, read its documentation.

    Hi paulwpxp,

    Created a new site – bible.satimis.com

    Twentyeleven
    twentyeleven-child

    Add Responsive Video Embed and activate it

    – Setting -> Media

    Couldn’t find “auto-embed” feature to enable on;

    -> Settings -> Media

    Pls see doc on https://bible.satimis.com/genesis-1/

    I have been browsing a while and couldn’t find relevant doc. I doubt this plugin can’t work on Twentyeleven theme.

    Also;

    embed, iframe, object { display:block; margin: 0 auto; }

    on style.css of child theme

    It doesn’t work here to center the video

    Thanks.
