• I just created my first post. When I previewed it, there was a comment box at the bottom, but when I published it the box had disappeared. The same is true for my Sociable links. They were there in the preview but did not show up once I published. Any help would be appreciated. Plus I’m super new at this and extremely low-tech, so type all answers slowly so I can read them. ??

  • What theme are you using? Do you have comments enabled on your site or that page?

A link to your site would be relevant as well.

Sorry, I thought I posted my site. It’s thriftcapades.com. I’m using Reddle as my theme. I guess I’m not sure how to enable comments. I thought the box would just show up as it did on my preview.

I do have the box checked that reads Allow people to post comments on new articles. Is there something else I should do?

Under the specific post or page, click on Quick Edit – is the box checked to allow comments?

Yes, it is. And it continues to baffle me as to why it showed up during Preview but disappeared (along with the Sociable buttons) once I published.

I just noticed that there IS a comment box on my About page. I’ve set my blog to be my Home page. Any chance that’s a clue?

Can you replicate the problem using the default Twenty Twelve theme with all plugins deactivated?

I don’t know what that means.

    1. Switch to the Twenty Twelve theme via Appearance -> Themes
    2. Deactivate all plugin via your Plugins page.
    3. Check to see if the commenting problem has disappeared.

Also, I was able to get the Sociable buttons to show, so that’s no longer a problem. Progress!

Sadly, no. The problem did not disappear.

Are you sure you have enabled commenting?

I’ve done it under Settings and again on the blog post itself. Is there some place I’m missing? And again why does the box show up when I preview?

NEW INFORMATION: Ok, I have my front page set up to show my blog posts. As you know, the Comments box doesn’t show. However, if I change the URL to https://thriftcapades.com/blog a Blog page comes up with a Comments box but no copy. Somehow the Posts and the Blog page itself aren’t connecting. Any thoughts?

I’ve also just discovered that if I click on the title of the blog post on the front page, a Comments box does appear. If I click on the link to my blog; however, it’s still empty. ??

I have to walk away from this for a while–it’s making me crazy. Please don’t give up on me–I actually do feel that this new info might help with the problem (fingers crossed).

[No bumping. If it’s that urgent, consider hiring someone.]
