• Hello,
I got this message when I tried to re-install WP 3.5.2.
Also, I get the “Error saving media attachment” for media I try to add to library.
In Flash uploader I get this: “Unable to create directory wp-content/uploads/2013/07. Is its parent directory writable by the server?”
I noticed I have a similar problems when trying to install a theme. I solved this bypassing the dashboard, downloading it and then uploading via ftp in the “Themes” folder. This doesn’t work for the “Uploads” folder.
Permission to Wp_content folder is 777.
Can anyone help me, please? Thanks in advance.

Permission to Wp_content folder is 777.

Assiging 777 to the entire Wp_content folder is very risky from a security standpoint.

ONLY make the wp-content/upload folder writable (try 766, 767, or 777 permission).

    VERY IMPORTANT:
Once your uploads are working, change the permissions on wp-content back to 755 again and check that everything still works OK

    Hello Tara,
    thanks for your advice.
I’ve changed wp_content folder permission to 755. In a similar topic thread someone suggested to erase uploads folder, cause wp would recreate it by default once you upload something. Which I did, but it didn’t happen: there’s no uploads folder, and this is the message I get when I try to upload media: “Unable to create directory wp-content/uploads/2013/07. Is its parent directory writable by the server?”
Not sure what this mean, but I guess wp-content is the directory mentioned?

Wp_content permission is currently 777 but the “uploads” folder is still not created by wp and I get the same message mentioned above. Any ideas? Where’s the bug?
    Thanks in advance.

How if you create the upload folder via FTP, etc.: /wp-content/uploads/

I’ve tried creating “uploads” folder myself. Both the folders permissions are 777 but nothing has change. It seems that wp can’t write in there or something.

    – Which theme are using?

    – To rule out any theme-specific issue, try switching to the unedited default theme for a moment using the WP dashboard. If you don’t have access to your admin area, you can switch to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using via FTP or SFTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

Ok, I tried: reactivated the old Twenty-Eleven theme without touching the default appearance and tried uploading media. No change. At least it is not a theme issue. :/
Is database involved with these type of wp actions at all?
