Step-by-step Yourls guide needed for complete idiot please.

  • Ok so I downloaded and activated the plugin, and am brought to a YOURLS Link Creator Settings page. It asks me to enter a YOURLS Custom URL and YOURLS API Signature Key.

    How do I know what kind of Custom URL is allowed, can I just put in anything I think looks good related to my domain name?

    Regarding the API Signature Key, it says it can be found in the tools section on the YOURLS admin page. Where is this admin page? Only this settings page seems available, and all I’m seeing when I look at the plugin editor is yourls-link-creator/yourls-link-creator.php and yourls-link-creator/readme.txt

    Is anyone willing to lower themselves and help a complete lay man use the plugin please?

  • This plugin is only an interface for WordPress to interact with YOURLs, which is separate software. You can download it at yourls.org.

    Ok so I downloaded the software, entered my details in the amended php file, created the database, moved the files over into my public html folder. All that stuff. I go into the tools.php to look for an API key but can’t find anything. The closest thing I could see was <?php echo yourls_auth_signature(); ?>, and I’ve been through it carefully twice.
