• I keep finding that .htpasswd & .htaccess keeps reappearing in wp-content/uploads. I’ve read elsewhere that these files are related to this plugin. I’m using this plugin but have selected ‘NO’ where it says: Lock files – If you select “Yes” all files will locked by a .htaccess file and only users with access can download files.

However, as I browse around my website and/or admin area, I will find that certain images aren’t being displayed on the live website, and when I check the /wp-content/uploads/ folder, sure enough, the .htpasswd and .htaccess files have re-appeared. When I delete them, the images re-appear.

How do I go about stopping these files from re-appearing? Is something in this plugin broken?

  • I have the exact same problem. I am also using UAM – User Access Manager, I renamed the .htaccess and .htpassword files in my uploads directory and it fixes it. But maybe a week or so, intermittently 2 new (above) files appear.

    My site is https://www.freemasonrytoronto.com

I think I need to deactivate or uninstall this plugin and find another one.

    Same problem!
    Please help.

Oh, if anyone has found a simillar plugin with out this issue, please recomend it.

I deleted this plugin and now use WP members and no problem

Hey if the option is set to NO for files locking at the admin panel the htaccess file will be deleted. Maybe the file permissions are not set right. Could that be?
