Featured image sizes are not correct…and all different sizes too!

Nothing changed overnight, but now my “Newest Feature” widget that sits at the front of the top row – has a cut off picture. I tried reuploading the pic {which is much larger than the widget defined thumbnail size – but nothing worked. Why would that change just like that – and how do I fix it? Also, the thumbnails are set to be 550×300, but they’re NOT…you can tell just by looking at them. They were fine yesterday, but for some reason they all changed. I’m sure I did something…but have no idea what!
