  • I’m having the same problem.

    I’m using
https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/nextgen-gallery/ in combination with https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/nextgen-gallery-custom-fields/ in order to use the gallery thumbnails beneath my posts to display external links.

And I cannot figure out how and especially where to display the custom fields to make my external links work again.

(since the plugin creator was in a motorcycle accident last year I would highly appreciate any kind of support that could help nextgen custom field plugin users ^^; )

I also would like some help regarding this option. Beside, maybe considering adding such an option in a future release could be grandly appreciated by a lot of users ! ??

    Patiently waiting…

Hi all – I think there was a mechanism for doing this within shortcodes for singlepics that we missed in the 2.0 update. You can still link thumbs within galleries or albums to specific pages using the Page Link To functionality.

Can you all confirm that you are specifically talking about linking Singlepics?

    Erick

I had upgraded to 2.0 version but went back to the previous one. @erick take a look at my page. https://arrisje.com/visual-recipe-index/desserts/ Each pic links to one page. That’s want we want. And from what I saw with the 2.o version that is not possible. Is there a fix for that?

I’m personally looking to link my thumbnails to external resources and right now, i can’t do that.

    @photocrati/Erick

I don’t know about that shortcode feature, but “single pic” doesn’t sound as if it would do the trick.

I think here is what we want to do:

    – Create a gallery containing (hundreds of) photos.
    – Connecting every photo to a distinct (external) link.
    – Displaying a (reusable) list of thumbnails where each thumbnail links to the corresponding link.

This should be as easy as displaying a list of thumbnails tagged by the same tag – without having to retype and find all the pics you need everytime again.

arrisjes example looks good enough (although I don’t like the line breaks, however, I guess that stems from the fact that only one tag can be in one list, it’d be awesome to be able to display all pics tagged with either of 2, 3 or more tags [only once displaying pics that have more than one of those tags *dreaming of heaven here*])

    Cheers

I’m glad to find more people with my same problem!

In my case, what I’m looking for is very simple: each image should connect to the URL of the “Link” custom field:

I think it’s a very useful option to add to NextGEN!!!

Hi all – thanks very much for the details. I don’t think this was a feature of NextGEN Gallery out of the box before, and it sounds like you were just using the NG custom fields plugin to do this? Is that the same for everyone, or were you doing this some how just with out-of-the-box NextGEN Gallery?

I can see the value. At the very least, we’d get this on the list as a feature request, or work with NG custom fields to restore compatibility.

    Thanks!

@ivanbortgual: again, just to confirm – are you adding that “link” field through the NG custom field extension?

    Thanks @photocrati/Erick

That’s great news. The option i used was this one described here :

    https://jackplug.co.uk/nextgen-gallery-link-to-url/

I don’t mind using a custom field if it can make our wish come true and in fact, i think this would be easier and practical to use.

    Looking forward to it…

    Kind regards

Thanks photocrati for the answer, and sorry for my delay but this is for the hour change between USA-Spain…

Following my screenshot, the field “Link” was, really, created using the NG custom field extension.

What I was doing until the last update of NextGEN Gallery was modifying the file “Gallery.php” to connect the images with the “Link”, but now I cannot find this file anymore and it’s impossible so!

The instructions are here how I had to do it to add NextGen Custom Fields Plugin. Here is the link what I used to use for making it work.
    https://www.kimwoodbridge.com/how-to-link-nextgen-gallery-images-to-an-individual-page-or-post-in-wordpress/

And thank you for looking into it. In the mean time I am sticking with the previous version.

[No bumping. If it’s that urgent, consider hiring someone.]

Will there ever be a fix for this one or are we stuck with the old version?

I didn’t downgrade yet, I hoped there’d be a solution in the foreseeable futer. Now, I guess I have to go through the trouble of downgrading, cause it doesn’t seem we’re on the todo list ??

    Arrisje,

Before the update I followed the same tutorial you mentioned. But where to put the gallery-customlinks.php? In wp-content/ngg_styles? Or in wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/products/photocrati_nextgen/modules/ngglegacy/view?

Whatever I do, this workaround does not function anymore. This is the page I’m talking about: https://www.dorinechrist.nl/?page_id=35
Before the update these thumbnails linked to a new window with a youtubevideo or another url.
