Try using get_the_ID() function instead of $post->ID object variable.

tried that but nothing, upon var_dump, the output is same string i.e string(o)””

Are the ‘promotional_image’ and ‘promotional_link’ custom fields from a plugin. The only way I could see that happen is if a plugin or theme is filtering these custom fields.

No, they are not part of plugin. But my problem is with get_post_meta as pasted in original form post. why is it showing NULL, what should it show?
