I’d like to have a series of boxes in the right column of a 2 column page, similar to what’s on this website. Can anyone please point me to documentation on how to do this?

    Thanks.

  • Why not use something like Enhanced Text Widget and then within that create two divs which will help you create two columns. From there you can add links, add images, etc.

Thanks, but I’m not sure I understand.

The theme I’m using (suffusion) allows for a right sidebar. So, I don’t need to create columns.

The problem for me (being new to WP) is a conceptual one.

What I don’t understand is: if I want 8 boxes, vertically stacked on top of each other (like this example), is that 8 widgets in one sidebar or 8 widgets each in it’s own sidebar?

And if it’s a single sidebar, does that mean each widget allows for its own styling, and thus I could create separate white boxes with black borders (like in the example)?

And is there an explanation about how to do that.

My answer would work but it involved some coding. The widget that I talked about allows you to drop in html, css, and php. Using css you could create columns that you could then insert snippits of code to then get the icons with links that is in your example.

If your asking me if there is a non-coding way which you are just using drag and drop, I don’t know any off hand but there are so many plugins that you are fishing if you go that way but maybe others have more info that could help?

You may want to ask on Suffusion’s dedicated forums here:

Btdt! They suggested asking here since sidebars are standard to WP, not specific to Suffusion.

I did find a plugin called Multiple Sidebar Widget that I’m playing with. It looks like it creates multiple sidebars in a single column, which is what I think I want. Will report back.

LOL – well, maybe we’re not understanding your question. In general, you put multiple widgets in ONE sidebar. But if you want to vary which widgets appear in different sidebars or on different pages, that would be a plugin question.

Yes. I wasn’t clear. And after playing with some of the widgets, I see the light! What I want is NOT multiple sidebars, but multiple widgets in a single sidebar. Widgets are separate boxes in and of themselves. Got it. Thanks.
