Ver 2.0.7 Broken "attach to post" functionality
-
I upgraded to version 2.0.7 today and now the “attach to post” button doesn’t work. When I click that button, I’m taken to a static page provided by my host (Inmotion) that says:
biz141.inmotionhosting.com
Your IP is 76.95.187.183
Thanks in advance,
Kerry

I have sort of the same issue. When I push the ATP button it opens the ATP window, but in that window I see my own website which gives me a 404 page not found error:
THIS IS SOMEWHAT EMBARRASSING, ISN’T IT? It seems we can’t find what you’re looking for. Perhaps searching can help. Search for:
@jeroen1973:
NextGen uses the wrong url:When you try to insert/edit a new gallery the url is, e.g.:
https://domain.tld/wordpress/nextgen-attach_to_post?ver=358-24485
and you get a 404 error, when you change the URL to
https://domain.tld/nextgen-attach_to_post?ver=358-24485
you will see the NextGen form.Have you installed WP in a subfolder? In my opinion NextGen does not recognize this kind of installation in 2.07.
I have also problems…
Warning: require_once(../../../nextgen-gallery/ngg-config.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /data/web/virtuals/38273/virtual/www/wp-content/plugins/ckeditor-for-wordpress/plugins/nggallery/window.php on line 5 Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required '../../../nextgen-gallery/ngg-config.php' (include_path='.:/data/web/virtuals/38273/virtual') in /data/web/virtuals/38273/virtual/www/wp-content/plugins/ckeditor-for-wordpress/plugins/nggallery/window.php on line 5
Deactivated CKEditor and the problem is gone… Seems to be some compatibility issue…
I have the same problems as jeroen1973.
@slabbi, if it a URL issue, how do i come ta a solution?
I have my installation on a subdirectory.
I presume the only thing the ATP does is add some shortcodes to display your photos on a page or post. So you can do that yourself, until Photocrati has fixed this.
(OP)
This is the first time I’ve logged an error (bug) on Nextgen / Photocrati. Do the developers normally respond or acknowledge these tickets? I realize that we can post galleries in the original way, but I try to manage aberrations on my site so they do not accumulate, get out of hand, and begin to contribute to larger problems. On another note… does anyone have a good article / tutorial on best practice workflow for using Nextgen with Photocrati? I have to confess that I post the vast majority of my images on my Smugmug site and then link to that gallery. In part I do that because I find the nextgen / photocrati process a little clumsy when compared to my Lightroom / Smugmug workflow. I’ve committed to blogging more, but want a smooth process. This broken “ATP” functionality isn’t helping.
Kerrloud, what do you mean with workflow for using Nextgen with Photocrati?
I use only Nextgen, but mentioned Photocrati since they now own the plugin and should give support on these issues. There are however Lightroom plugins that will export from Lightroom into Nextgen, so I think you should look at those. But I don’t have any experience with those.
Jeroen,
I purchased Photocrati as a template a few years ago. At that time, there was tight integration between Photocrati & NextGen. Since then, as we’ve seen, Photocrati has purchased and taken on development / maintenance themselves.
I guess when I speaking of workflow, I mean do the majority of users find it easier to first create a gallery and then link to that gallery when writing a post on WP. Or…. Create the gallery within the post edit functionality. Like I said earlier, The majority of my work is on SmugMug and I certainly can link and display those galleries in my WP posts. But I’m digging into my WP / Photocrati / Nextgen setup to see what advantages there may be in posting content there vs linking to my SM galleries.
Hi all – A few thoughts here.
First, if you are having this problem, can you go to Gallery Settings > Permalinks and let us know if you are using “Default” permalinks? If so, can you try switching to any other option (like Postname), and let us know if that resolve it.
Second, if you’ve checked the above and that’s not the issue, can you confirm if, as @slabbi has suggested, you are running WordPress installed in a subfolder?
Finally, if the permalinks change doesn’t resolve it, can you please consider submitting a ticket with loign credentials so we can see what’s happening on yours site? We can’t duplicate on our sites, and being able to see it would help troubleshooting.
@slabbi: thanks for posting your solution/thoughts. We’ll look into the possibility that this is being generated by WordPress in subfolders.
@kerrloud: we’re doing our best to respond to everything. There’s obviously higher than normal volume, and we are triaging to focus on high priority issues. This one is pretty high priority.
@jeroen: thanks for the suggestion on using shortcodes. FYI – I know I still need to get back to you on where to store custom templates in your other thread.
Permalinks are on ‘Post Name’. When I change it to ‘Default’ I get to see the homepage of my website, when I choose the ATP. Changing permalinks back to ‘Post Name’ gives me a 404 again.
Yes, my website is installed in a subfolder.
If it helps I can report a bug via the link you’ve provided, but I don’t feel comfortable with providing login credentials. Perhaps someone else will do that? If you want me to check other things let me know.
I understand my question about where to store custom templates isn’t high priority. But thanks for letting me know that it has your attention.
@kerrloud, I first create a gallery. Then I create a new page where I link to that gallery.
@plugin Author – Thanks for getting back to us. As I indicated further up the thread, this was the first instance of reporting an issue, so I was unaware if this area was being actively monitored. I’m sure you all are busy responding to reported issues, like @jeroen says, we’re glad it has your attention.
I ran through all the options on the permalinks and when attempting to use ATP again, I receive various 404 type messages from my host.
I too am unwilling to to turn over my login credentials for my site. I’d be happy to provide a screenshot of my installation if that would help.
@jeroen, thanks for the thoughts on workflow.
Now this all makes sense…
Hey all –
We just released an unofficial mini-upadate that addresses cases where there’s a 404 on the ATP page. If you are comfortable with FTP, you can download and update to the latest version here:
https://www.nextgen-gallery.com/nextgen-gallery-latest-beta
Thanks.
