Login now impossible – what to do?

I know this topic has been discussed repeatedly here and I’ve tried pretty well all the solutions. Last time it happened, several months ago, I went into my database on the server and reset the password manually, but it doesn’t seem to be possible now.

Is there really no solution to this one? I would like to reinstall WP and start afresh, but it I try that it says it wants to delete all my entries. I’ve copied all these in text form so at a pinch I could remake them, more or less.
Is that really going to be the only way?

This login problem is really the worst feature of WP. When it bites, it bites hard. And I don’t even know how it happened.
