WordPress unable to create directories

Is this related to using WP Media to upload files for your site? If so, try adjusting the folder permissions for the wp-content/uploads folder with an FTP client:

Do they have a support page that describes the workaround?

Yes Lorenzo, it is related to uploading media. I will try doing what you said, “Adjusting the permissions” however, my ISP said they don’t allow writing to the shared server.

However the ISP also said there are many users with WP accounts using the shared server so there is a workaround to the writing problem, but they won’t tell me what it is.

I’ll try what you said and see if that works. If not, it’s probably the server issue that will need to be addressed.

Lorenzo, I checked the permissions of the wp-content folder and I appear to have permission to write to that folder, so I assume that there is something else causing the problem. Anyone else? WP still cannot create a directory in the db.

Permissions are 755 rwxr-xr-x

Apparently there is some way to correct the permissions so that I can upload images and wp will be able to process them. Unfortunately since I’m using a shared server, correcting the permissions is not as straight forward, it’s very confusing when reading the codex about changing permissions. Anyone know the trick to getting a shared server to work with WP?????

Lots of people run WordPress in shared environments. The main requirements for WP are PHP and MySQL installed.

Who is your ISP? Having a server you cant write to does not make much sense.

When does this happen? Is WordPress installed and can you login to your admin panel?

I solved the problem by tweaking the permissions on the wp-content folder. It seems that the default permissions WP had on that folder were not allowing directories to be written on my server.
