• We are running 80+ separate URLs off of a single WordPress installation and mySQL database. Its a custom solution that is working well across two different sets of sites, all running of a single box. If this is the kind of thing you are interested in, I might be able to help.

  • I am interested. I don’t anticipate 80 seperate URLs but am at 6 right now and we are finding new reasons to use wordpress everyday. what have you done?

Is this like mu.www.ads-software.com or the Lyceum project?

or is this a service that you (ebaltz) are selling? If the latter, please leave a contact email address so that we can close the thread.

Its a fairly customized setup, which doesn’t rely on WPMU. Its not for necessarily reselling blogs etc…but more for running multiple similar sites off a single installation and database. There are a few different ways to do it depending on your needs. You can contact me at [email protected]

    Hi,

maybe a stupid question, but why would you run so many instances from one database?

Because we can. ?? All sites do they same thing and we want the data all together, and this is much easier to maintain. Can you imagine trying to manage 100 databases?

    Hi again,

well, I prefer separate databases any day over having to find the needle in a haystack, when something goes wrong. That’s why I was asking.

And what’s so difficult with managing 100+ databases? I do so without any trouble. And if one of the users f***s up and crashes his db, I’ve only to play back one db, and find out what went wrong, and not have to hunt through 100+ users and table extensions to discover who created the trouble with what in the first place.

    I don’t have users.

    *sniff*

    something doesn’t smell right here…

    *snifffff*

    nope, still fishy…

300+ sites all live, all functioning beautifully and being enjoyed by people.
