Is there a way to invite existing WordPress.com users to become users on my www.ads-software.com self-hosted site? I am working on an education website, the previous instance of which employed wordpress.com, and I want to invite last year’s users to use my site with their WP account.

Is there a way to do this with a plug-in or extended jetpack functionality? I would rather my students use their wordpress.com accounts than create new ones locally.

  • There’s no way to do this via a plugin on your self-hosted site but you could have a word with the folks over at wordpress.com to see if they can help you.

If you do want to contact WordPress.COM then consider posting in their support forum.

    Thanks for the leads, fellas.

I realize the difference between .ORG and .COM Jan but you could understand why I’d ask the very open-minded .ORG people before the .COM as I imagine the .COM people will just tell me to buy their overpriced premium packages. Either way, thank you for taking the TIME to REPLY.

Found it immediately on the front forum, my biased reservations about wordpress.com were just that – biased reservations. In case anyone wanders here from a support forum search, here is the thread for migration on wordpress.com support

Actually, the wordpress.com people are pretty cool about this sort of thing as they’re pleased to see their users move onto self-hosted WordPress sites. I think they will try to help if they can.
