Same problem here. Standard Theme. WordPress 3.6

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

Do you use any caching plugins on your site? If so, could you try to deactivate them?

If that doesn’t help, could you try to switch to a different theme for a few minutes, and let me know if you still experience the issue?

    Thanks!

Both ways aren’t working. I also tried resetting the plugins folder via FTP but no joy. FYI, I also updated Jetpack. But still no widgets on the dashboard.
Only when the plugin folder is renamed to plugins.hold, the widgets are seen.

What happens when you delete the existing Jetpack plugin folder via FTP? Do the widgets reappear?

If so, could you try to upload a fresh copy of Jetpack manually, as explained here:
    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Managing_Plugins#Manual_Plugin_Installation

Let me know if it helps.

Hi I seem to be having the same issue since updating to 2.4 with disappearing widgets. Every time I try to deactivate Jetpack I get an Error 500 page. What is the problem? does anyone know?

OK this is a little later. I just deleted Jetpack via FTP and now the widgets page is back to normal and showing on the site too.

It seems the new widget control component you have added to version 2.4 may be the one causing the problem. It went so far as to actually block the screen options and help buttons on top of the widgets page of the dashboard.

    Addendum to previous post:

I just tested by uploading an older version of Jetpack to my site and activating it, with the same results. So I imagine I will have to wait for some more in depth solution from here to solve the issue.

Just a couple of technical points, my WP is fully up to date, I have tested the site with all plugins deactivated, except for Jetpack which does not allow me to deactivate as mentioned before, I have tried it with various themes with no effect. I can’t seem to find the correct DB for Jetpack on MySQL either.

I am getting the same issues as Vishy Moghan.

Removing the jetpack directory from plugins via FTP ‘fixed’ the problem.

“Deactivating” the Jetpack plugin takes me to the sites 404 page.

When the Jetpack plugin is activated, and I go to Appearance -> Widgets, the sidebar to drag the widget to is not shown and only a couple of the widgets appear.

Thanks for the extra details, it’s very helpful.

Once you reactivate Jetpack, could you try to deactivate the Widget Visibility module, and let me know if it helps?
You can follow the instructions here to learn how to deactivate a Jetpack module:

    Hi Jeremy
No that was the first thing I tried at the very beginning. It doesn’t change the facts at all.

On some of my other sites this issue has not occurred, so I am deeply baffled. It seems to be happening only on one installation of WP, out of several instances on this particular server. I can not find anything at all in this specific case that is glaringly different from any of my other sites.

Do you use different plugins, or a different theme on this site? It might be worth trying to deactivate all other plugins, one at a time, just to make sure the problem is not caused by a conflict between Jetpack and another plugin.

If you find a conflicting plugin, please let me know!

    Hi again
Is that to me or to jdorner? cos if it’s to me, if you look back you’ll see that this was the second thing I tried out, again fail.

Aaaand that’s why you really should start your own topic.

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/jetpack#postform

This one is Wastabik’s and other people have managed to take over his. Unless you’re on Wastabik’s server and installation please separate into your own topics.

That way your problem can get the help it needs without ignoring the original poster.

Go into cpanel or witch ever one you use and delete it.

thanks for the advice, but if you look back it is EXACTLY the same issue, regardless of server. Why start a new thread only to have admin refer us back to this one?

    Cool!

So is Wastabik’s error_log showing anything and does it match yours (if any)? What version of PHP is on your server and his? Can you provide a list of plugins on Wastabik’s WordPress installation? You’re both running 3.6 or is one of you using 3.5.2 or earlier?

See what I mean? You both have the same symptoms and it may be the same thing. Or not.

Either way that’s why you should start your own topic and not take over someone else’s.

    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Forum_Welcome#Where_To_Post

Unless you are using the same version of WordPress on the same physical server hosted by the same hosts with the same plugins, theme & configurations as the original poster, do not post in someone else’s thread. Start your own topic.
