• I use the Adapt theme made by WPExplorer.

In Appearance > Customize I get options for changing the background and other things. The background color can be changed easily. When I add a background image and click “Save & publish”, the image is added nicely in the background, when I look at the website.
BUT when I leave the Customize-page – either by clicking “Close” or by closing the browser window – the background image is gone. The color is still on.

If I go directly to Appearance > Background in the WP menu, it is the same deal. I can change background color, but here I can’t add a background image – not even for a short while, as before.

Is this a theme problem? How can I solve this?

  • You can use another way out.

The image is saved as bg.png at location domainname/wp-content/themes/wpex-adapt/images/bg.png

You can navigate via FTP and change the image you desire. There might be issues regarding folder permissions, but this thing will work 100%

Thanks. Can this be done via the a child-theme?

By the way, just changing the bg.png file doesn’t work.

When I set the background in the Appearance > Customizing it seems that the image is shown fine on the website UNTIL I go to the WP admin panel again. Then only the background color is shown. That means, if I just close the browser window, then it still works fine. But when I open the WP admin panel again, it is gone.

Can I reset the background settings in some way, to make it work when I change the bg.png file through FTP, as you suggested?

I have not gone through the theme, but usually you can add custom css in all wordpress themes.
Please provide url of your current installation and the color you want to use, it can be added there.
Otherwise you can do it via theme editor>stylesheet.css
