I am trying to update to 3.6. I have deactivated all plugins and retried but to no avail. Still getting the following message:

Really? Is that the best you can offer?

I chose to use WordPress because it was supposed to be easier. How about taking a look at the error message and determine what is causing it so that I can do the automatic update?

I am not trying to be a smart-aleck. But, I am not a webhead and I don’t feel comfortable with a manual update at this point without at least some attempt to get some help on the cause.

Is anyone else having this issue? Has anyone else reported a similar error message?

Is that the best you can offer?

    Yes.

I did. This is a server issue – not a WordPress one. The only solution from a WP perspective is to carry out a manual upgrade.

And, a word of general advice – you really do tend to catch more flies with honey than vinegar. Especially when asking for help on forums staffed entirely by unpaid volunteers who are trying to help others out of the goodness of their heart.

    ESMI,

    Thank you for your help.

And here is a general word of advice for you. You generally will get more patience from someone who is having a problem with a product or service that you are supporting and representing if you will give a little more than a one word and one link answer. If the fact that you are not being paid to support the product is a problem for you, then I suggest that you take that up with WP. As a customer, I am willing to pay for support. I have paid for a premium theme and premium support (although I can’t get that to work either, but that is another story.) I am not expecting something for free. I pay for the website, the domain, the hosting and some other tools.

I apologize that I offended you. I meant no harm. But there was nothing in your initial response that indicated that you had given my question anything more than a passing thought.

Even though it is not, I will mark this as resolved since you have indicated that you feel that this is a server issue. I am not sure how a manual update versus an automatic update will make a difference if the actions are being performed manually instead of automatically on a server that has a problem. But, I will seek honey coated advice and help somewhere else. Perhaps they can help explain what to do or at least advise me whether or not I should stay with the most recent version of WP.

Again, I am sorry that I came on with vinegar instead of honey.
