update broke the blog!?

  • I entered my credentials to have WordPress automatically update my blog, but now I only get this line:

    Fatal error: Call to undefined function get_taxonomies_for_attachments() in C:\inetpub\vhosts\omeletta.com\httpdocs\wp-admin\menu.php on line 67

    I backed everything up beforehand, so I’m TOO freaked out, but what do I do now!?

    I’ll try the manual update, but I can’t even get back into my dashboard. It just shows the Fatal error message.

    I’m attempting to re-upload the files via my FTP and it’s not being very helpful. I’m a little lost and frustrated, but I’ll keep trying. thanks.

    you should if the update works out. This is one of the basic troubleshooting steps. I cannot tell you if it will work or not. You just have to try to find out if this will solve the issue.

    Thank you for your advice today. I went through and did a manual update following the codex support system you linked to earlier. the problem is, now I just get a 404 “Page not found” message when I try to log into my dashboard.

    any suggestions?

    Try:
    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    – running the upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.php

    Thank you so much for your help- I started again from scratch and re-uploaded the update files, it seems to be working. Broken plugins are all over the place, but they’re the least of my worries right now! Thanks!
