Searching Galleries in NextGen

Okay, so I’m building a photography site and decided to use WordPress and NextGen.
My problem: I want to search all my galleries in NextGen and display the search results as images. Found several threads from developers trying to acheive the same but not found a good solution.

If anyone has any experience or advice on doing this I’d be grateful for your help.

Can it be as simple as using the WP search widget ?
