• I’ve got an issue that has me rather stumped. I, as an admin, have the “Add Media” button above post editors. My Author Role (which has “Upload_File” Permissions) doesn’t have this add media button.

Now, If it was a plug in conflict, I’d think it would be site wide, but maybe not. If it was a permission error, I can’t imagine what permission I’m missing then, because I’ve added unfiltered upload, and edit galleries and anything that has to do with uploading and images.

I have also gone through and deactivated a few plugins one at a time, all to no avail. I’m really rather stumped on this one

  • Can you replicate the problem using the default Twenty Thirteen theme with all plugins deactivated? I assume you are aware that authors can only upload files to their own posts, yes?

I’m not the only admin, so I hadn’t gone that far yet. I was really really trying to avoid it. And yes, the post that brought this to our attention his is own.

What happens if you create a new author user and login as that user?

I saw the same thing today on a site using underscores. I created a new user with “author” privs. There’s no add media button.

Have got this problem right now, only the Administrator sees the Add Media button on the Edit page or the Media option in left-hand column … any progress toward an answer in the 8 months since first query?

Am running WP3.9.1 with Ultimate Tiny MCE and NextGEN Gallery in case that’s relevant

I have the same problem in my theme as well. Using Grandcollege theme
