Mysterious Blank Space Between Words In Text

  • I have a strange mysterious blank space between words on my home page (Twenty Twelve theme). This is what it looks like between the period and the word “Visit”.

    I have the text aligned to justify. So I know that this is not the problem. I have removed the double spacing between the period and the word “Visit” and the mystery space shifts to the right.

    If you highlight the entire text around this, you will see that the mystery space is visible. Very strange. I have checked for unclosed tags and such. I have searched the codex and google but nothing specific comes up.

  • Have you tried switching back to the original, unedited, parent theme to see if this is specific to your child theme?

    I switched back to the original, unedited, parent theme and the mystery space is still there.

    Can we see the site using the default Twenty Thirteen theme with all plugins deactivated?

    I cut out the text from the admin page, pasted it in a text editor. I was able to put arbitrary text in without any problem. But when I put the original text back the problem reappeared. I even typed in the section in question.

    Mystery space is still there.

    Twenty Thirteen theme with all plugins deactivated solved the issue. The mystery space is gone. Shall I re-install the original Twenty Twelve theme?

    It’s worth a shot. Re-upload a fresh, unpacked, copy of the Twenty Twelve folder to wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

    I re-uploaded a fresh, unpacked (unzipped) copy of the Twenty Twelve folder. The problem came back. I have changed the text to work around this. It is not obvious anymore as the mystery space is at the end of the sentence/paragraph now. Very strange.
