Can we get number of shares with custom buttons?

I’m trying to make a custom template and I use custom buttons for share.
Unfortunately, once I use custom buttons, a lot of bells and whistles disappear, so that there’s no pop-up windows – it just loads new page.
There’s no tip floating etc.

Also, there’s no option to display the shares count with custom icons.

For now I ended up making my own matching count areas and aligned those with the plugin output, but it’s very lame solution.

Any advice on how this can be accomplished?
Essentially, I would like to have access to the tags like:

the_sst_share_link($id / $url, $service);
the_sst_share_count($id / $url, $service);

Where $service can be ‘twitter’ ‘facebook’ etc.
I understand that all the JS script stuff might complicate it a bit, but I though it’s worth mentioning.

Also, you have a typo – when I try to use the Buttons + Count option, it says Tweeter instead of Tweet or at least Twitter
