  • Hi Glowe,

    thanks for downloading the theme.

To use an image as thumbnail, you will have to set it as featured image: https://www.mhthemes.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Featured_Image_upload.png

You can find more stuff regarding the theme setup here: https://www.mhthemes.com/faq/

    Dafu***?
No help in this links you set in.
Just an empty forum window and the other links to FAQ there is no help about this problem.

    This is not good enough.
Why does I have to set featured image at every post I write?
The template should show first image from the post like any other ,,real” theme does.

Why does I have to set featured image at every post I write?

Because that’s how the theme (and many other themes BTW) works?

That grey box is the place holder for the featured image and if there is none you get that place holder. You can try modifying the theme files via a child theme or use a plugin to set the default featured image.

    Hi Glowe,

as Jan already said, using the featured image as thumbnail is a common practice in many professional WordPress themes. You can use a plugin to add the featured image to the old posts, if you prefer that instead of adding this manually.

Or you can edit the theme files and remove the image / place holder completely, if you prefer that instead.

About the FAQ, I said that you can find more instructions there regarding the theme setup. I never said that you can find an solution for this specific thing. I just wanted to help you with the theme setup, sorry.

Btw. this theme is used on thousands of websites and actually people are very happy with it. So I think it is worth to call it a “real” theme. But if you don’t like it, you don’t have to use this FREE theme and try to find another theme instead which fits your needs. ??

    Michael

    Hello Glowe,

this are two solutions which might help you out:

    1.) Use this plugin: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/easy-add-thumbnail/

    or

2.) Use this code: https://www.gavick.com/magazine/wordpress-quick-tip-4-automatically-set-the-first-post-image-as-a-featured-image.html I did not test this code, so if it does not work with the theme, you might have to modify the code.

    Sorry about my frustiration.
I have try for a long time to find theme that I like and when I found it, (mh-magazine) I liked it, but have for few days try to find out why the thumbs does not show up in frontpage and cat’s.

This code does not help, don’t know where to put it and the plugin is no help eiter.

Maby I’ll buy full version of this theme later on, but for now, no.
I have been trying to find shortcode for the slider and nothing there either. Did some tests on other side and the same problem was there, no pics in cats and no pics on the slider.

    Hello Glowe,

you would have to use the featured image in the premium version too, that is how the theme works and usually this isn’t an issue.

Are you sure that the plugin does not work? Please note that the images in the post have to be assigned to the post, otherwise the plugin does not know if a image belongs to a post or not.

The slider and the rest of the front page do not work via shortcodes. It is all based on widgets, that is why I posted you the link of the FAQs, because you can find everything there to setup the theme. But you were not interested in that… ??

You can read more about how to setup the theme in this post: https://www.mhthemes.com/blog/how-to-setup-mh-magazine-wordpress-theme/

The widget map there is for the premium version, so please ignore the image. There is also a quick documentation for the lite version, which can be found here: https://www.mhthemes.com/documentation-mh-magazine-lite/
