Post Permalink problem: odd characters: ?
-
Hi everyone. The others day I posted to my blog and noticed that the post link included the following characters to the permalink before the ‘post name’ and after the ‘date and month’ elements: %ef%bb%bf
Removing the characters from the link resolves to 404 page.
I deleted the post and reposted the same contents, but again with the same result. The current link to the post is: https://www.thewoolyyarn.com/2013/09/%ef%bb%bfphysics-and-the-cosmogony-of-dadaism-the-balanced-and-unbalanced/
I had posted a few days before this post and there was no problem. I don’t think there were any changes to wordpress installation except a possible update to ‘JetPack’ plugin.
Actions taken:
I’ve reset the permalink structure to WordPress default (saved it) and then back to ‘Month and name’: NO EFFECTBrower related –
IE 10: The link appears as above in IE10 in all instances (Top browser address box and when you hover the mouse cursor over the post title).Firefox: the link appears normal (without extra characters) when you hover over the post title, but address above shows the extra characters. Also, when using social media sharing the characters show up.
I’ve cleared cache on both browsers (also as instructed to Bluehost where the blog is hosted). NO EFFECT
I’ve checked the contents of the htaccess file and it is normal. File permissions are ok.
Today I noticed that the photos in the post were unattached. I reloaded them, as well as re-uploaded the first photo. All photos are now ‘attached’. Still there is NO EFFECT to the post.
Note: there were problem uploading the photo to WordPress on the day I originally posted. Photos would upload partially at times. Had to try several times before they would take.
I’d appreciate any advice you might have on resolving this. It seems this may have something to do with UTF-8 encoding and extra bits – but I have no clue about this.
Thanks and all the best! – Jay
