• Hey everyone,

I have one or two widgets (top posts and categories) that I only want to appear in the sidebar of my blog page. I’m doing this using Jetpack’s new visibility option, selecting under the visibility button “Show if Page is Blog”. For some reason, there’s a bug that’s preventing tis from working properly. Ive updated WP and Jetpack to the latest versions and the problem remains. Ive tried to change the visibility option to another page and then the widgets ARE shown, so the problem is really somewhere in the code of the blog page.

Any ideas what I can do to fix this or how I can troubleshoot to find the responsible bug?

  • Can you replicate the problem using the default Twenty Thirteen theme with all other plugins deactivated?

    Hi Esmi,

Ive tried deactivating all plugins but to no avail.. Im afraid of deactivating my theme because of the colour scheme etc I spent lots of time editing (this is in the theme options part). Will those still be there when I switch to another theme in between?

There is no magic bullet in these situations. This is just the start of basic troubleshooting and is a process of elimination deliberately designed to locate the root cause as quickly as possible by first removing the most obvious and common culprits via a series of (often) temporary steps.

Do you want to locate and, hopefully, fix the problem on your site? If “yes”, then please help us to help you and carry out the changes that we suggest.

Your theme & plugin settings are saved in your database and should be retained for future use.

Ok, thanks for explaining how things work – and “yes”, I do want to locate, and hopefully, fix the problem!

Problem still persists with all other plugins activated and twenty thirteen theme.

Additionally, using the same single plugin activated to show a gravatar in the sidebar gives the error message “Error loading profile”.

As this appears to be a Jetpack issue, please post a new topic in https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/jetpack
