  • Sorry, but can’t see an “older entries” link at the bottom of either of these pages. Please explain further.

Thanks for checking — the link is there, but the bottom two posts are sticky on each page so perhaps misleading. Look just above the image with the dove tattoo on the woman’s neck, two posts up from the bottom.

    Thanks ??

it will probably be theme related.

Has this problem always existed as far as you know?

You theme is a child theme, do you know what the parent is called? and who modified it?

Problem has been present for over a year, started after the implementation of the current theme, but unknown if it was at the same time. (Not noticed immediately.)

Customized Daily Edition from Woo Themes. Customized by a group I’ll not name but who has looked at it and been unable to resolve. Several other WP experts have looked into it and been unable to identify the code error.

    Very nice site otherwise !

Think you may have to live with being wrong it in that page, but it would be nice to be able to go to older entries.

Given that most/many people will not spot the older entires, maybe a manual workaround is needed – suggest this as a possibility

You should be able to create a new category of say “older entries” and change all the ones that do not display on the current page to this category.

Then if you are using a custom menu, simply create a menu item for this category, naming it whatever you like.

You could also add the recent category posts widget, which would then also add this to the sidebar, or as an alternative to the menu

Good possible workarounds, appreciate the suggestion.

Difficulty is that our metrics show that link is one of the most-clicked links on the site — readers are accustomed to finding such a (functional) link on sites, and use it. Unfortunately, in this case it’s a dead-end, and a costly one for traffic. So we’d really like to get to the bottom of it.

Was hopeful to get some direction as to which part of the code may be producing the error, given it’s a link that would normally function. If you have thoughts on that, would be most grateful to hear them.

Thanks much for taking a look and sharing your observations. Will give further thought to possible workarounds as you suggest. ??

Think the answer may be in the last para of the attached

    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Creating_a_Static_Front_Page#If_WordPress_is_in_Root

    which says

    “Pagination

Static front pages are not intended to be paged. None of the WordPress Previous / Next page link functions work with a static front page. Pagination on a static front page uses the page query variable, not the paged variable. See the WP_Query for details. “

Seems to describe your issue very well.

Don’t personally know how to fix it. but to start with can you say how your home page is set up – what setting where create this?

    Thread Starter lwlindquist

    (@lwlindquist)

It’s actually set up on the settings page to feature latest posts vs a static page. The appearance of the home page would be controlled via the home.php.

That was sure worth a try though. Thanks!

front-page.php if there is one takes preference over home page , so a quick look to see if you have that file.

    Yeah, no front-page.php. ??

Moving the databases into a test environment so we can better isolate hte problem — thanks for your help. ??
