good morning everyone…i’m still up trying to figure out a bunch of stuff, specifically RSS.

i need to incorporate RSS into our wordpress site: https://www.paintlessbusiness.com/wordpress/

i’m new to all this rss stuff and when i read instructions on it about feeds and which applications to pick etc…i get lost.

can someone tell me not what an RSS is but how i can insert RSS into my already existing wordpress site?

    thanks so much …

    drew

LOL okay you made me look dumb…wait, i made myself look dumb! haha but wait…

i just installed an rss reader and copied the source and imported it in wordpress and it said All Done Have Fun!

okay..so i went to my blog site https://www.paintlessbusiness.com/wordpress and i didn’t see the new post.

i know in wordpress i have to create a new post but what did i just do using rss reader for then?

See the links in your theme’s footer?

oh dear. no. Import isn’t used for feed reading. Your RSS reader grabs feed FROM your blog.

Import is used to migrate blog content from one blog to another (aka stop clicking it!).

Open your feed reader and point it to your blog’s feed. The reader does all the work.

omg..did i do something right here?
i actually did it using the rss reader…

i’m gonna celebrate right now WOW!
i stayed up all nite for this!!!

    handy…

ok let me stop for a moment..catch my breath…probably take a nap but i won’t. not until i KNOW this stuff.

did i do anything right on my page?

you say not to click on import but that’s what i did…just a randomn url…

when you say…point it to your blogs feed…blogs feed?

Right Drew — deep breaths and relax.

Again, you won’t be touching your blog’s Import options (from the admin menu) to get RSS feed reading working.

As you’ve noticed, in looking at your own blog, the bottom of your pages have links for feeds. Those links are what you give to your feed reader.

The feed reader takes care of pulling in the content and checking for updates.

    The blog just… blogs.

Now then, before we become a primer on using feed readers (which we won’t be!), let’s back up a step and ask a question I should’ve asked much sooner:

Say Drew, what is it that you’d wish to accomplish?

lol…good question handy and thanks for asking. hehehe

    well…my client requested this…
“we will subscribe to rss feeds to post in the wordpress pages.”

so by stating ‘subscribe’ i’m not sure what that means other than go to a car site let’s say(because this is for paintless dent removals for cars) and grab there feeds and import them into ours….?

    handy,

ok i had to re-read what you wrote a few times…you’ll have to excuse me…i pulled an all niter…

    you wrote here:

yes i see the section in the grey area with links. you said, these links are what i give to my feed reader(rss reader)…how do i do that? click on the link and add that link to rss reader?

That’s possible with a nice plugin! And as far of your own feed, it’s suited after every page/post you’ve made in your blog! It’s the best thing to set your perm.links into nice clean urls so that your feed is to be found like:

    https://www.yoursite.com/yourblog/thepost/feed/

    yep.

    well…my client requested this…
“we will subscribe to rss feeds to post in the wordpress pages.”

Perhaps your client had a small typo and “post” should be “posts” as in, “We will subscribe to RSS feeds to read posts”. Otherwise, that just doesn’t make sense.

Unless… your client wants to pull OTHER blog’s feeds into his blog as posts. In which case, you’d be looking at Syndication Plugins. https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Plugins/Syndication

    ok i’ll add those plugins…

    thanks handy…

one other question for you guys…and i appreciate your help alot with this…

    https://www.paintlessbusiness.com/wordpress/?p=8

how do i get the word ‘wordpress’ out of there and replace it with paintlessbusiness.

do i have to rename the wordpress directory name?

Where? In the footer? Please don’t! If you really want, than remove this in the footer template.

sorry, in the url you mean (didn’t look carefully enough ?? )

    Thread Starter drew68

    (@drew68)

yes in the URL…do you know how to?
