Header with different sidebar/menus, where to start..

  • Hi I’m not new to CMS or wikisystems, but I’m new to wordpress and it’s pretty overwhelming, so I’m kinda lost.

    Can somebody tell me where to start when I want to convert this existing website: https://www.de-bezieling.nl/ to a wordpress based site, looking as much like the original as possible?

    The most important issue of that site is that each option in the header relates to a different left-menu bar, with links that in turn all point to different pages.
    Is there a theme-group that does this already?

  • First step: to build a theme that looks like your existing website:

    When you are done you’ll know a great deal about how the templates work to build a theme… so you’ll be able to use catgeory templates and/or Pages to organize your content in the way you want it presented.

    I’d seen those pages. I’m not gonna read that, sorry, it’s just way too much info I will never ever use or need again. What I was looking for is a base to start off from, a theme where I could just replace stuff, I was not looking for pages that tell me what is possible with wordpress.

    It seems pmwiki will get me there a lot quicker. WordPress seems way too complex for what I want to do with it.

    If you’re not willing to read the documentation for WP, you should use something else. I realize it’s a lot of reading, but there is a learning curve to everything. The curve for WP is actually much more gentle than most.

    Whatever solution you find, you’ll have to do some reading.

    There’s nothing like a reference to a page with 30 links to scare somebody off.

    jult — for what you are looking for (and I’m guessing you’ve figured that out by now!), yes, PmWiki is probably more easily configurable. It has it’s own learning curve, of course, but the SideBars & Menus are not a part of specific themes/skins, for the most part.
