Can we change the directory to use the wordpress upload directories?

Can we change the directory where the images are stored to use the wordpress upload directories?

I know GoDaddy has an issue if you have more than so many files in one directory and I will be running into this issue if I can’t put the images into monthly dated folders like wordpress does out of the box.

Any way we can change this so it uses the same directories?
