404 problems with installation in a sub-directory

Hi

Not sure if i have a solution. But have you checked what file your WP theme is using to show you the last of your problems.. The odd looking 404?

The way this page looks is based on your theme, not WP itself..

I’m not sure how I can find that out. :-s

What theme are you using? Where did you download it from?

I’m using suffusion, downloaded directly from within the theme browser in wp

Suffusion does have its own 404.php template file.

yes it does, and it loads up just fine, except when /main/ is in the url.

Here is a another non existing page, but this contains /main/ (where my wp really resides)
https://www.ukeboutique.nl/main/totally_false_page

I suspect this is more of a “WordPress taking over the root domain from a sub-folder” issue as opposed to anything in the theme. Have you tried re-saving your permalinks? What custom permalink structure are you using?

I’ve tried re-saving the permalinks back to default and then back to my normal structure –
/%category%/%postname%/

What happens if you use the default permalink structure?

If I switch to default permalinks

Can we see the site using the default permalink structure, please?

testing a bit more..

/main/ doesn’t seem to be in the equation after all.
I can substitute that with any other word an I get the same problem

so

https://www.ukeboutique.nl/poppycock – gives 404 *tick*
https://www.ukeboutique.nl/poppycock/morepoppycock – gives the wierld blank post

Anything, 2 nests deep it seems.

It’s back to default for now. I will leave it like that for 10 mins

All of your Post & Page urls seem to be hard coded…

Is that not how wordpress creates them? I add a page or a post and it creates a permalink like domain/%category%/%postname%/
If I link to ‘exisitng content’ in the editor, it puts in the full url
