• Hello, I’ve been fighting with an issue with my categories not displaying in proper alphabetical order and I can’t quite figure out why.

Not only do they not appear alphabetically on the front end of my website, but also in the backend as well.

I’ve double checked the slugs and everything appears to be just fine. There’s no rhyme or reason why they are out of order.

My site is https://peppers.com/ and if you look at the sidebar you’ll notice that they are not appearing correctly.

When I edit the categories in the backend, they also appear in this same order. Also when I click on “Products” in the backend and choose to filter my products by category, the drop-down menu appears in this same order.

I’m not exactly sure what could have caused this but I’ve tried a number of different things from writing my own category dropdown widget, to using a variety of plugins, and even WPEC’s own category widget which does not display them in the correct order.

There’s something in the core of WPEC that is causing this to happen and I’m not sure what.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

  • ive noticed it myself. in the backend, when I add a cat from the quick edit (for example) and scroll down, a fair amount seem alphabetical, but then theres more that are farther down the list.

did some checking, i have an art site where the artists are in an artist category, they seem to be generally in alpha order, but not nearly all.

I was able to move them 1 at a time (pain) where you add the catgories, you can click and drag. (if you have alot, you need them all show on 1 page to drag), option settings (top of page) make number more than cats you have.

drag is a little buggy and slow to initialize.

    ????

settings in the store area reorder the products (name or date, etc) on the front end, but didnt change any order in the drop downs for me.

Hey there gmet, thanks for the information. I’ve been using WordPress for 5 years and had no idea you could just drag around the dag-on categories haha. For now this has fixed my issue, however I do have a crap load of categories and can only hope that these change automatically and dynamically for me in the future. I think WPEC relies on the order number rather than the true alphabetized list.

Either way I appreciate the quick temporary fix for the time being but hope it gets fixed permanently in the future.
