Failed update: Warning 'failed to open stream'

Check the permissions and the owner/group of the files in in your wordpress installation.

I have it installed through my hosting provider’s app. When you say owner, do you mean their app installation files?

Anybody else have another recommendation?

Would really appreciate your valuable support.

I meant the files have proper permissions for execution and the file owner has permissions to serve them trough apache.

Well, f**ed up now!

I tried to do this and now I can’t even access my website nor the includes folder on FTP, I get this msg:
Fatal error: require(): Failed opening required ‘/homepages/29/d491922521/htdocs/clickandbuilds/WordPress/…/wp-includes/load.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php6′) in /homepages/29/d491922521/htdocs/clickandbuilds/WordPress…/wp-settings.php on line 21

This is a BS system to try to update WordPress through dashboard and not have it completely functional. By doing so, the tutorial doesn’t explain it correctly until I had the problem and saw the Extended version explaining more detail.

What’s the best solution for this, please?

That doesn’t make sense as FTP and the WordPress dashboard are 2 separate ways to get into your files. FTP should always work.

OK, permission problem there.

That may be the problem. Have you asked your host about that installer?

That ought to do it. Can you provide a link to your installation? If you can’t or don’t want to that’s fine too.

Start by making a backup of what’s there now including the database. This is just a safety precaution as I want to make sure something really bad doesn’t happen.

Once that’s done then do that re-upload on the WordPress 3.7.1 files skipping the wp-content files. This time rename your existing theme directory to wp-content/themes/your-theme-name-OLD and rename plugins to plugins-OLD.

This is just to make sure that your theme and or plugins are not interfering somehow. It’s a temporary step (don’t delete anything) and hopefully will let you into your WordPress dashboard.

If that does work, which theme are you using?

I did upload everything but the wp-content file, but I keep getting all failed transfers from FTP and now I can’t access the wp-includes file.
Funny thing is that the dates of the wp-admin and wp-includes still appear with the original date of installation back in Sept. and not today’s transfer.

I think you need to speak with your web host provider. It sounds like those files were installed using a different user id/group id then the one you are using with FTP. Or the file and directory permissions are not set to let you upload new copies onto that file system. Using FTP should work every time and when it doesn’t then it is a host thing.

I was asking just to make sure that it’s not a theme conflict. It doesn’t sound like it is. Can you speak to your host? Show them this thread and they may be able to get you sorted out.

I was able to change some permission with the hosting provider (1&1 ain’t that good BTW) and now I get the following msg as error: “Permission denied in failed to open stream: Permission denied…. wp-admin/includes/class-wp-filesystem-direct.php on line 200”

I also changed the permission key in this file but the error still occurs. I also receive this msg:

The following file was not copied : wp-admin/images/icons32-2x.png

According to this msg, the file is an image with icons used in wordpress for editing, but I cant’t even access the directory when I try to look for the file.

Does anybody know about this problem?

I look forward for any suggestions.
