User (Author) Post Count Randomly Reset

Hey, so an author whose had 1000’s of posts on one of our sites has had their Post Count reset, and is only showing the 8 most recent posts since it got reset.

I took a look in the term_taxonomy table for authors and I am seeing two identical entries for this author, one entry with the 1000’s of posts previously associated and then the most recent entry with the latest 8 posts.

Any idea why a new entry would be added, and how to re-attribute their previous posts to the author without having to manually save each post?
