    Ack!

I can’t log in to the wordpress blog that I set up on my own domain (hosted on a 3rd-party server). My username and password don’t work, and when I request a new password I get the error message “Sorry, that user does not seem to exist in our database. Perhaps you have the wrong username or e-mail address?”

This is a new blog, installed several weeks ago but not yet revealed to the world. Yesterday I upgraded to version 2.0.4, downloaded and installed a theme, added some images, and did some other set-up work before turning off my computer.

Today I could not log in. Username and password were saved on this computer, I had cookies set, and I have my “welcome” e-mail with the username and password, so I am reasonably sure I am using the correct username, e-mail address, and password.

I don’t believe that “admin” was my username for wp-login.php? as of yesterday. Also note that when I try to get a new password from wordpress, using the username and e-mail address from my wordpress welcome message, I get the message “Sorry, that user does not seem to exist in our database. Perhaps you have the wrong username or e-mail address?”

Unfortunately, I cannot access the entire domain right now, so I cannot test anything. (The server is working, but I suspect that access to this domain was disabled due to too many failed access attempts in short succession.)

Hurray! I finally got into phpmyadmin and extracted the information I needed.

Hi, i need help, please. I also cannot log in as “username” is not reckognised. the following message appears.

“Sorry, that user does not seem to exist in our database. Perhaps you have the wrong username or e-mail address? Try again.”

I installed wordpress trough godaddy.com website which is my webhost. after installing, I managed to get on my page/wordpress and used login details that I was sent by email. this is when username is unknown.

    what amd I doing wrong?

same problem here….. i just finished upgrading to 2.1 and bang! this hapenned…

should I upgrade? It took me ages to get to this stage…

    same here……

Are you people changing the admin name in the dashboard?

    what is a “dashboard”?

The Dashboard is the page you get when you first log in to your WordPress control panel.

I cannot go beyond the fist page which is something like this:
    “Hello world!
    January 28th, 2007
Welcome to WordPress. This is your first post. Edit or delete it, then start blogging! “

when I go to the bottom right corner of this page to Login, this is where “admin” is not recognised.

    please help!

    Well what was the resolution?

I also tried “install4free” few days ago and was told to contact godaddy which I did yesterday and today and finally got to this stage (a bit further than I was few days ago). What I don’t understand is that I was sent (i suppose this is automated)an email with following:

Your new WordPress blog has been successfully set up at:

    https://gyocitygardener.co.uk/wordpress

You can log in to the administrator account with the following information:

    Username: admin
    Password: ******

We hope you enjoy your new weblog. Thanks!

    Password seems to be OK.

    RESOLVED?!?!

    WHY!??!

One thing to know about GoDaddy is that (unless it’s changed), they do not support mod_rewrite, so you’ll not be able to use the “prettified URLs” option in WordPress.

Yes, they “support” .htaccess, but not mod_rewrite.
