• Since the launch of the Install4free blog/site, on July 12, 2006, it’s been doing pretty good I think. =)

To let everyone know of the purpose behind it again, here below in number format, is it’s purpose.

    1) If you’d like to have a Blog, and have it Installed 4 Free, then this is a good option!

    2) It is there, that you can request a WordPress expert to install WordPress at your domain, for free. So you don’t have to worry about all that Techie Geek, goop stuff.

    3) Even if you had partly installed WordPress, but are stuck at a certain point, you can *still* receive help, to get it working for you.

    4) Again, The installation service is offered freely.

The only terms: A) This service is ONLY for individuals wishing to install WordPress for personal blogging purposes. B) Requests related to businesses will not be accepted.

This free service is offered by people who are experienced in installing and using WordPress.

These people are trusted by their peers and were nominated by their peers to provide this service to you.

So, if you would like to have your very own blog, up and running, for your own personal use, feel free to stop by the Install4free blog, and follow the directions.

I hope you find this service useful, and if you decide to use this service, I wish you happy blogging. =)

P.S. Please keep the “negative” and “degrading” comments to yourself! Thanks!

  • Keep it up spencerp. Nice help to the Community. May I apply for a membership?

Quote from that “people” page linked above:
…please know that the volunteers for this project were nominated by their peers and that if asked, the majority of subscribers to the WordPress Support Forums mailing list would give a thumbs-up to the Install4free volunteers…

So I excluded all those hosts lacking one-click WP-installs in vain when I switched hosting…? ??

Seriously, I think it’s a great idea. Hope it works out well. ??

It is great to see some of the top people in the community contributing in such a way. This can only be good for increasing the adoption of WordPress. Great idea and I wish you all the best!

Do you do upgrades from 2.0.3 to 2.0.4?

My hosting company has one click install but is still not offering the latest version.

Wow! Thank you all for the nice comments and support. =) @rok, I think in moshu’s reply, covers how that was handled. =)

Do you do upgrades from 2.0.3 to 2.0.4?

“We” technically do “fresh” installs of the “latest” WordPress version, of 2.0.4. But, I’ve already done a few upgrades for people already. =) It’s not that hard to do, and technically..it’s the proper thing to do for the users.

So, if you have a blog running WordPress 2.0.3, but are stuck on the installation of it, it’s probably a good bet, that who ever would help you with it, will provide you with 2.0.4 anyways. I know I would, if I happened to help you. ?? =)

And, if you didn’t even get the chance to upload WordPress period, and had submitted a help request, you’ll receive 2.0.4 any how.. =)

I hope this helps, and isn’t confusing lol. I just woke up not long ago lmao..so half the brain is still in bed, calling my name.. hahaha..

Since emails through the wp-forums, and wp-install email lists haven’t been going smoothly lately.. I’d figure I’d post this here too…to *hopefully* get even more feedback, suggestions, opinions and so forth. =)

And, to also make it more of a “community” discussion, rather then just amongst the Install4free installers.

Here’s what I was thinking of, since the Install4free launched on July, 12, 2006, “we’ve” had numerous installation requests, which I think the end result of the installations are going great!

While communication between the “installers”, and the “clients”, are pretty good as well, I’ve received a few wonderful replies back from the clients.

My question is this, what do you all think of maybe “us” the “installers”, starting a Testimonial page, containing a few nice words from the “clients”, after their installation was completed? Of course, maybe just keep their names limited to *only* first names, or whatever..

IMHO, I think this would help the Install4free project out, as a self promotional option. ?? Also, with all those “negative” replies to the first initial forum thread, I think this will help “us”, as the Install4free project, even more.. =)

Of course, this idea, suggestion, and opinion’s fate, are held in the hands of the masses.. =p I was just curious about it, and please feel free to share your thoughts on this of course. =)

I’m typing this up, while a few wonderful replies from “my clients” are sitting in my inbox. =) They are just staring me in the face, and I want to share them to the world.. but, I can’t yet lol. =P

    Spencer–

So anyone? I know a few posted their thoughts on this, in the wp-forums list.. but, how would anyone feel about “this” though?

    Dear spencerp,

Your idea of the free help service is absolutely fantastic. This is the sort of voluntary effort that builds on the excellent reputation of WordPress.

I just hope that you don’t become so snowed under with requests that some ungrateful whingers maight make negative churlish posts because you were unable to repond in five minutes!

    Testimonials? Goodness me – Y E S !!

[ . . . ?? building up to a request for help on an install problem that I spent 14 hours trying to solve yesterday! ?? ]

Your idea of the free help service is absolutely fantastic.

Yeah, however..it wasn’t my idea lol. It was an idea inspired by the many of volunteers/mods/helpers from the WordPress community. =) ??

This is the sort of voluntary effort that builds on the excellent reputation of WordPress.

Well, that’s “our” goal, and also to help those, that are in dire need of getting their WordPress blog’s up and running, even though “they”, themselves, can’t get it running. ?? Everyone should have the privilege, of having their own WordPress powered blog. ??

I just hope that you don’t become so snowed under with requests that some ungrateful whingers maight make negative churlish posts because you were unable to repond in five minutes!

Well, I can’t speak for the other “installers“, but..I haven’t had any problems per se, with anyone I’ve dealt with over there at the Install4free blog/site.. Well, *yet* anyway lol. =P =)

And *usually*, anything that’s dealt with over there, is kept there, or between the “installers“, and the “users” requesting the install, via emails. ??

So, as far as I know, everything is running smoothly now, however, if the Install4free option gets more and more requests, we *might* see *some* lag time, between each installation, sigh. =( I just hope not though.. ??

    Testimonials? Goodness me – Y E S !!

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on that, and giving “us”, the thumbs up, for providing a Testimonials page. =) ?? Hopefully soon here, “we’ll” come up with a Testimonials page..

[ . . . ?? building up to a request for help on an install problem that I spent 14 hours trying to solve yesterday! ?? ]

Hehe, Well..I haven’t checked over there yet, as I just got up from a looong sleep lol. But, If you ever want to, or feel the need too, feel free and drop “us” a comment over there.. and someone will help you soon. =)

Thanks for all your kind words, opinions, and so forth. =)
