I have a strange issue with page titles. When I search for pages from my website (other than the homepage) google displays the website title after the webpage title, often in a weird fashion such as “Prints Inc Presents Jamie PaulPrints Inc.” or “Prints by Jamie Paul Archives | Prints Inc.Prints Inc.” Hopefully the link below displays the problem…

    Google Search

These weird titles appear in the tab when the page is opened as well! It’s a bit of a nuisance, so any help would be much appreciated.

It is not a search engine issue. “Prints Inc presents Jamie PaulPrints Inc.” is exactly what appears in your website’s TITLE tag. What Site Title is specified in your WordPress admin General Settings screen? Do your various plugins have their own settings that might change the title?

    Hi Rod,

Thanks for the reply. The site title is Prints Inc. This is another page with the slug prints-inc.com/artists/jamie-paul/

The homepage is the only page that displays the correct title on the tab and search engine. All the other pages seem to add the title on to the end (e.g – prints-inc.com/shop/ appears in the search engine as Shop|Prints Inc.Prints.Inc)

It’s a bit confusing for a novice like me!! Could it be something to do with the WordPress SEO plugin?

Can you replicate the problem using the default Twenty Thirteen theme with all plugins deactivated?

    Hi esmi,

    Thanks for the reply.

Novice question coming up; if I switch the theme and turn off all plugins, will my site return to how it was when I switch the theme back?

(I’m fairly sure the answer is yes, but I just want to check with someone who’s far more knowledgeable than me before I get myself in a muddle!!)

Yes, theme and plugin settings are saved so you can safely switch them off to test.
